Charles Nwatu – 30 – Information Security Blerd – Mountain View, CA

Bio

First and foremost I bleed Blue & White. WE ARE..PENN STATE. WIth that out of the way, my other two passions are anything and everything Information Security and Assurance. The second, is Health Information Technology. I want to be able share my insights within the information security field with as many people possible. Protecting your digital identity is a big thing in this day and age. If you have any security related questions, ask away, I am here to serve!!

  • I am BlerdNation because...

I am who I am because of my passion and love for learning. I am different in many ways, but I have learned throughout my life to embrace my differences. Technology allowed me to escape and do things that made me happy and meet new people.

  • Who is your blerd role model? Why?

This is still open for debate, so at this point and time, this is a work in progress. My father got me my first Tandy computer and is my first Blerd role model for exposing me to this other world.

  • How do you stay connected to other blerds?

Right now I am building my social media network. This includes my LinkedIn profile and Twitter (@charles_nwatu). I am looking forward to writing information security articles for various diversity information technology sites.

  • What’s your most awkward blerd moment?

During an interview I blanked on a simple question about PING. It was the last question in the interview and in my mind I wanted to say ICMP, but for some reason it didn't. It was very awkward moment on the phone.

  • What’s your favorite word/phrase?

"Is there anything else" "Good Morning"

  • What are your goals/passions?

My goal is to be very active and participate in developing and expanding the minority involvement in the information security field. In addition, I want to branch out into health information security and provide expertise in this area.

  • What are you listening to, watching, or reading that impacts you or that is giving you a different perspective?

Currently listening to Naija music. I love Oliver de Coque and Osadebe. I am also listening to Bob Marley and Diana Ross. I have a very eclectic music collection and my mood influences my music selection.

  • Are there any famous, or not-so-famous, people that you think would be a great addition to BlerdNation?

  • What advice would you give to other blerds?

Stay true to yourself. Reach out and help others. Network. Say "Thank You" and "Good Morning", as one of my mentors kept drilling into me, "do your best make each day a great day"
