Zachary – 38 – Woodworking Artist – Chattanooga, TN

Bio

The fantastic Mr. Reynolds grew up in a family of artists. It wouldn't be long before he added artist, carpenter, and wood worker to his growing resume. Although his college degree is in Environmental Science art has always been a huge part of his life. He spent a summer interning with his Grandfather C.E. Blevins who was a prolific artist and he learned the art of creating exact replicas of birds eggs. Many of which live at a non profit called the Avian Learning Center that is run by his creative family. Now his passion is Woodwise Urban designs where he creates furniture, sculptures, and much more from recycled pallets. If he is not creating you can find him outside enjoying nature or hanging with his wife, dog, or two cats.

  • I am BlerdNation because...

I am standing on the shoulders of my ancestral past. I acknowledge the past as I move towards the future. Embracing the now.

  • Who is your blerd role model? Why?

Hailie Selassie because he showed me a way to deal with the complexities of modern living. He embraced his Kingly nature and often people of color do not realize the rich history that we came from. We were kings and queens first.

  • How do you stay connected to other blerds?

    Music, books, and uplifting movies.

  • What’s your most awkward blerd moment?

Endless comparisons to anyone with dreads.

  • What’s your favorite word/phrase?

There is no failure only feedback.

  • What are your goals/passions?

My goal is to leave a legacy of teaching. My passion is creativity. I see a successful line of recycled furniture and a way to teach the youth about carpentry and self worth simultaneously. I strive to know myself in the deepest sense of the word. (I think that alone will be the force that changes the world)

  • What are you listening to, watching, or reading that impacts you or that is giving you a different perspective?

My wife. I watch her navigate the world with a grace and drive that motivates me. I listen to her change, grow, and become a better version daily. I read her Spark Seeker blog and I'm blown away by her. Needless to say I am a blessed man.

  • Are there any famous, or not-so-famous, people that you think would be a great addition to BlerdNation?

Mike Scott, a local teacher and tennis instructor. He sees first hand how our community is in need of inspiration.

  • What advice would you give to other blerds?

The symbolism of the Sankofa bird who looks to the past for wisdom while moving towards the future.
